This is probably the best place to start. You will find diagrams as well as photos and art. And everything is free.
You need to know 2 things.
1) If it says Public Domain, it is free from copyright and safe to use
2) If it says Creative Commons, it means you have to acknowledge the photographer/artist on the same page you use it (also called Attribution), but it is still free to use.
Paintings are a great way to illustrate the pages and nearly all will be free to use. I have put one from Wikimedia in the Breastfeeding categories page - brightens it up nicely. I hope to add pictures or photographs to ALL our pages.
How to do it:
Download>Full Resolution>Right click and Save Image (or whatever you normally do to your computer)
Upload as usual.
(NB "Use This File On A Wiki" icon gives you the shortcut link for your page you are editing)

These are some of the sites I recommend for free photos to use with the wiki. I have chosen those that you can go straight in and download from - a lot of others want you to register and all sorts, so these below are nice and easy and free from all that nonsense.
http://www.photogen.com/ (very limited stock, but easy to download etc)

And here are a few that you must sign up for, but are still free and easy to use
